Kauri
Kauri Syndicate has three classes from year 7-8.
Staff are:
Room 13 - Miss Alex Southall
Room 14 - Mr Paul Hammond/Bronwyn Hallott
Room 15 - Mr Neil Preston/Ms Carole Stapleton
Learning through the use of information and communication technology (ICT) is a high priority. All year 7/8 students have a Macbook (laptop computer) permanently and we acknowledge that the use of these laptops has made a big impact on the students' engagement and learning. The laptops have engaged students so they can participate in work that is specifically targeted to their strengths or weakness's with pleasing results.
There are plenty of opportunities for extending students' talents in various areas with students selected to attend enrichment programmes.
There is a Financial Literacy group, which will investigate various aspects of finance, such as: saving, interest rates, planning for tertiary education and buying a house.
Environmental Literacy will be investigating areas around the school that they would like to adopt as a project to enhance the school.
Throughout the year, Years 7/8 will be involved in Outdoor Education one day per term, with the year 7's having a one night camp in term 4 and the year 8's will have a two night camp.
All Year eight students are encouraged to 'step up' and be positive role models for the rest of the school. Responsibilities are widespread – Black Hats, school council, peer mediation, sports and house leaders.
Students in Kauri Syndicate are encouraged to develop their leadership skills and initiative. They are also encouraged to be caring, positive and involved members of the school.
